What is spirit communication?
Spirit communication, from a Christian and scriptural lens, is the ability to behold (sense or witness) the visiting or ministering of angels (loved ones) who have passed on. Communication comes in the form of feelings, thoughts, images, and sounds. Some people visit with their passed loved ones in dreams. Some seem to be born with these gifts, and others, like me, mostly gain them after a loved one passes away. Many people throughout scripture and history have experienced spiritual visitation or communication, particularly in times of grief or transition. Often, those who have these gifts or experiences don’t share them openly, often out of fear of misunderstanding or judgment.
Why did you add this to your work as a grief coach?
I didn’t initially intend to. I was able to communicate easily with my son after he passed, and I just enjoyed this gift for myself and my family. I even took a class to fine-tune this gift/skill from a Christian woman who has studied it for years, to improve my connection with my son. Shortly after my son passed, we had another death in the family, and I started to feel her communicating with me as well. A couple of times, she asked me to relay messages to other family members.
As a grief coach, I was once doing a session with a woman whose son was murdered. She confided in me that she had even done a session with someone who can communicate with deceased persons to find more healing. I then told her I also have that gift/skill and asked if she wanted me to communicate with her son during that session. She was thrilled. I was able to connect with him, describe his personality and interests based on the information he gave me, and share a powerful message about his growth and healing on the other side, his love for God, and his love for his mom and family. That moment, as well as other God-inspired moments, gave me the courage to begin offering this gift/skill to my clients in addition to my other grief work.
I only provide this service upon request. When I am recommended to someone for grief coaching only, I only focus on that. I understand that not everyone is comfortable or interested in communicating with loved ones who have passed, and I completely respect and hold that boundary.
I have been trained to use my gift/skills ethically and am very prayerful before, during, and after sessions to ensure I am representing the person and their messages accurately. I have been providing spirit communication work in sessions for the last couple of years. I am now becoming more open about it because so many clients have told me how it has made their lives bearable after losing an immediate family member. A study was conducted that found that for grieving parents, it was as healing or more healing to connect to their child through the veil than it was for them to get help through therapy. As a grieving parent myself, I couldn’t agree more.

We have over 70 episodes interviewing other women and men of faith who use their spiritual gifts for good. Here’s the episode where I am interviewed about my grief journey and choosing to share these gifts.
